In this text, we will explain how to protect your crops and orchards, as the procedure differs. The rodents that cause the most economic damage to agricultural land are field mice, field voles, and hamsters. Given the damage caused by field mice and voles, it is necessary to implement 4 measures to reduce their population, using preventive, mechanical, biological, and finally, chemical measures:


1. Preventive measures:

  • This includes removing mowed grass, branches and hay, bushes, waste, and old machinery, thus eliminating places where rodents can hide and find shelter.
  • Rodents are most attracted to food and water. Minimize the availability of water on and around your crops. Check all water sources, dripping faucets, puddles, ditches, pipes, etc. Remove nutrient waste and store food, harvested fruits in well-protected warehouses or metal containers.
  • Keep firewood elevated, as well as all other materials if kept outdoors.
  • It is very important to organize quality agrotechnical measures, which include plowing, timely harvesting, and weed destruction. If you have orchards, pick up fallen fruits from the trees as soon as possible.
  • It is recommended that orchards and plantations be regularly inspected and that active rodent holes be checked, based on which their population can be determined.


2. Mechanical measures

Mechanical measures refer to the use of mechanical means such as setting traps, pouring water into holes, and digging protective ditches.


3. Biological measures

These are methods of regulating those species that exist in nature itself and involve the use of predators such as foxes, eagles, crows, cats, and other animals that use rodents as food. Also, owls have proven to be extremely good at repelling rodents.


4. Chemical measures

Chemical measures involve the use of registered rodenticides when determining population categories based on the number of active holes per hectare. Chemical measures are certainly the best in eliminating rats and other rodents.

It is recommended that fertile areas be regularly inspected and that active rodent holes be checked, based on which their population can be determined.

USE OF RODENTICIDES, or colloquially known as poison ON AGRICULTURAL LANDS

The most effective measures that have proven to be effective are chemical methods, specifically the use of zinc phosphide-based rodenticides. The product Cinkosan is produced by the company Ekosan and is the only such product on the domestic market! What distinguishes it from other rodenticides is that it is zinc phosphide-based, has a stronger effect, is more resistant to moisture, and is more appealing to rodents.
